Vibrant Parenting Support Services

Dawn Nelson
Dawn L. Nelson, Barrister & Solicitor
   Edmonton, Alberta

Vibrant Parenting Support Services provides monitored parenting time in a home-like setting for short term reintroduction, child-led reunification, or interim parenting arrangements. It is not quite “supervised parenting”, but it is monitored and facilitated by experienced professional child & youth workers and a B.Sc. Psychology grad.

We are now taking applications for the pilot project period of January to June 2020. Time can be booked in one hour increments from one to four hours on evenings and weekends. Families will be asked to participate in a short survey about the program and provide their feedback.

There is a fee for the monitored parenting service of $50.00 per hour. Families may be referred by their lawyer(s), mediator, or by another professional providing supports to the family. The monitors and facilitators will not provide detailed notes, other than a brief report that the visit occurred or did not occur as anticipated. They are a neutral presence and will not be taking sides or testifying in legal proceedings as a witness (unless something goes terribly awry and veers into CFS or EPS territory). They are simply present to ensure children and parents feel supported in a challenging circumstance.
