Email filing at the Court of Queen's Bench is now an option. Read more: https://albertacourts.ca/qb/resources/announcements/email-filing-of-court-documents

The Courts have assembled a summary of their response to the pandemic: https://albertacourts.ca/qb/resources/announcements/courts-responses-to-covid-19-pandemic/

Of most importance, there is now a document with three appendices, listing which matters will continue to be heard by each court: https://www.albertacourts.ca/docs/default-source/qb/all-courts-notice-to-the-profession---appendices.pdf?sfvrsn=86018180_1

In particular, it sounds like the ABPC and ABQB will continue to hear EPOs, some urgent Apprehension Orders and initial custody hearings under s 21.1 of CYFEA in ABPC, and some urgent Family Court matters (the examples of absconding with a child or risk of removal of a child from the jurisdiction are given). ABQB can still also address restraining orders and preservation orders, and it looks like they may give second priority to "Urgent orders relating to parenting time, contact or communication with a child (that cannot reasonably be delayed)". See the above appendices for the complete lists. That means that some urgent parenting disputes might still be on the table.

The ABPC has also updated their Covid planning page, including a reduction of courthouses and separate pages with additional information for Edmonton, Calgary, and outside of those centres: https://albertacourts.ca/pc/resources/covid

It looks like the ABCA has moved to being able to hear all matters remotely, albeit with modified deadlines and procedures, and no JDRs. They've included the details in the above appendix, as well as here: https://albertacourts.ca/ca/publications/announcements/notice-to-public-and-profession---covid-19

For all other matters, remember that family law arbitration is an excellent alternative to the court system, and can be conducted remotely: http://www.DivorceArbitrations.ca
