AFCC Alberta Chapter - Community Outreach Survey

Christina Harrington
 Legal Educator
  AFCC Alberta Chapter
   Calgary, Alberta

Hello everyone, we are writing to YOU on behalf of the Alberta Chapter of the Association for Family and Conciliation Courts, or the AFCC. The AFCC is an international non-profit dedicated to resolving family conflicts, specifically parenting conflicts. We need YOUR help. We have been informed that YOU are in the position to provide information about professional development needs in your community for professionals dedicated to helping resolve family conflict.

Many of you may have heard of the AFCC before, although it is ok if you have not. The AFCC is an interdisciplinary professional association consisting of many different kinds of professionals, such as lawyers, mediators, judges, psychologists, social workers and academics. We have received funding from the Alberta Community Justice Grant to complete a Community Awareness Campaign.

AFCC Alberta recognizes the disparities that exist in the province, and the critical need for improving public awareness of legal rights and resources, creating greater access to justice, addressing disparities within communities, and strengthening partnerships between legal professionals, community organizations, and justice agencies to better serve Albertan’ needs.

AFCC Alberta promotes collaboration amongst these professionals by seeking to identify best practices, provide professional development and continuing education and promote networking and innovation within practice. The overarching aim of AFCC Alberta is to improve the lives of children and families who are navigating family law and the family court system.

We have a yearly Alberta Conference, as does our parent organisation, typically held in a large American city. We also have regular webinars from academics and practitioners. We have regular dinner club meetings in both Edmonton and Calgary, where all are welcome to join and eat and get to know each other, while also providing a presentation on a specific parenting topic or issue. We also have many resources online, such as our Parenting Plan Guidelines, the Family Court Review academic journal, and archived Webinars.

We are hoping that you will take our survey to help us to better understand the professional development needs of professionals in your community who are dedicated to resolving family conflict. Please click on the following link to participate.
