Law Show is a student group composed of law students at the Faculty of Law of the University of Alberta. For the past 26 years, Law Show has produced an entirely student-driven theatrical production with the goal of giving back to the Edmonton community by donating all proceeds to a local community-based charity.

After over a quarter century, Law Show has become an essential part of the student experience at UAlberta Law and enjoys widespread acclaim in the wider legal community. In an ordinary year, over 150 law students volunteer their time and efforts to prepare, rehearse and showcase an original theatrical interpretation of a classic story. Rehearsals occur every Sunday evening in the Fall term, and daily in the Winter term leading up to Law Show’s two-night production at the Myer Horowitz theatre.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the entire Law Show team has pivoted to envision an entirely virtual concept for this year. The combined efforts of Law Show participants have been diverted into separately filming each component of the show and compiling it together in an extensive editing process. Although we are unable to host an audience for a live show this year, all of our volunteers are excited to bring another beloved story and its iconic stars to life for the 26th consecutive year.

Scooby Doo: Long Paw of the Law is a creative spin on your favourite mystery solving team. Each year the show carries a message about being a member of the legal community, and this year is no different. While law school can be competitive and cutthroat, we want this show to truly represent the collegiality of UAlberta Law and how friendship and comradery are the best parts of law school.

The benefits from Law Show extend beyond fostering a supportive and collegial student environment to the wider Edmonton community. In our previous three-year partnership with the Women In Need House, Law Show donated nearly $60,000 to assist in their delivery of programs and emergency services to women and children fleeing domestic abuse.

This year’s production marks the first year of Law Show’s three-year partnership with our new charitable organization, the Terra Centre. As putting on a production of Law Show’s magnitude comes with substantial operating and production costs, we rely on contributions in order to maximize the charitable donation that the Terra Centre receives. Rather than selling tickets to a live show this year, we are selling access to our virtual production via minimum donation. If you are able to support our fundraising efforts and watch Law Show this year, we thank you and hope that you witness the camaraderie and dedication from our student volunteers that has made Law Show possible against all odds.
