Topic:

"Explanation of the important updates to the new Divorce Act for the "lay practitioner" (and family lawyers too!)."

The changes to the Divorce Act came into effect on March 1, 2021 with no grace period. Changes included new forms, updates to that statutory framework, and new requirements for both litigants and lawyers. As a staff lawyer for ECLC, and a sessional instruction at the U of A Faculty of Law, Ashley Taunton not only represents clients, but also prepares guides and other materials to assist volunteer lawyers (who may or may not practice much family law in their regular practices). Whether or not family is a significant part of your practice, this will be a valuable update and/or reminder of the changes that came into effect in March.
