Private Guardianship applications are becoming more common as more people wish adopt or apply for guardianship of children that have been in care of Alberta Child and Family Services. Under the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act, a Home Study, is required under section 52(1)(1.1) for the Courts to consider the Private Guardianship Application. They are also contemplated under the Family Law Act in section 23(3). Our speakers will provide an in-depth overview of the requirements of a SAFE Home Study, what they should include and how they should be presented to the Courts. We will also be presenting a mock court application of how to have your Assessor qualified as an Expert Witness.

Speakers:
Kristine Sandberg, SAFE Study Assessor
Jeff Sturgeon, SAFE Study Assessor, Managing Director, Your Counseling
