Hosted by AFCC in Edmonton from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on October 29, 2025 Link: https://calendly.com/coxlawyer/afcc-supper-club From Paula Kinoshita:
Good morning,
On behalf of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts “AFCC” Supper Club of Edmonton, I am reaching out to you to invite you to the AFCC Supper Club meeting on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Central Social Hall, 10909 Jasper Ave, Edmonton.
The AFCC is an organization of multi-disciplinary professionals who assist families in conflict after relationship breakdown. The AFCC Supper Club of Edmonton is an opportunity to interact with local professionals and to hear from speakers involved with families in conflict. We hope to encourage and assist professionals to promote well-being and healthy transitions as parents and children experience separation and divorce. The AFCC Supper Club is a monthly get-together, and we anticipate meeting on a weekday during the last week of the following months: September to November, and January to June.
We are looking for the participation of judges, lawyers, mediators, psychologists, researches, academics, counselors, court commissioners, custody evaluators, psychiatrists, parenting coordinators, court administrators, social workers, parent educators, financial professionals who are involved with families in transition after separation. The professional can work within the court system or outside of it.
On Wednesday, October 29th, we will engage in a new Supperclub series, called “Conversations.” During our Conversation series (which will happen periodically through the 2025/2026 year), you will have opportunity to engage in conversations with different professionals about the issues we face in helping resolve family conflict.
Our Conversation topic for October 29th is: “Stories from the Field.” We encourage you to dine with professionals both inside and outside your field and to come with at least one story to share. Here are some questions to consider:
1. What are the problems you deal with in your profession?
2. What is the hardest part about your job?
3. What have you witnessed in regard to harms to individuals or harms to children in your field?
4. What case almost drove you from your field of practice?
5. What have you done that could have driven another professional from their field of practice?
6. What can we learn from our stories?
7. How do we not make things worse for the family? For each other?
8. How do we keep grounded within our work?
9. What words of advice would you have for people coming into the field?
10. What will we change in our practice as a result of our conversations tonight?
On Wednesday, November 26th, we will return to a regular event and hear from a speaker on a topic of interest. Stay tuned for the supperclub announcement for November!
If you plan to attend on Wednesday, October 29th, please sign up as soon as possible. The link for the event is on the AFCC Supper Club brochure attached. If you have already signed up, there is no need to sign up again.
