Hello All -- SAVE THE DATE!! Wednesday, September 20th 10am to 11:30am (noon to 1:30pm ET) the CBA National Family Law Section is organizing/hosting a Webinar on ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS IN FAMILY LAW: CODIFYING CHANGES IN THE MODEL CODE & BEYOND.

In the context of increasing calls for reforms in Family Justice across the country, the new Divorce Act, and greater focus on family violence, the rights of children and youth, and indigenous peoples in Family Law, the CBA Family Law and Child & Youth Sections, together with the Ethics & Professional Responsibility Subcommittee of the CBA have proposed Amendments to the Model Code of Professional Conduct for Family Law Lawyers. The proposed Amendments include new commentary clarifying the role of Family Law Lawyers in Non-Adversarial Proceedings and New Ethical Standards for Family Law Lawyers.

SPEAKERS: John Paul Boyd KC and Vanessa Lam (Ontario)

Please mark your calendars to join us for this important and possibly riveting discussion about the ethical issues that face us as Family lawyers!

For ease of reference I am attaching the CBA Proposal for Amendments to the Model Code for Family Lawyers.

The CBA will be sending out the registration link fairly soon - so look out for it.

Just a reminder about this webinar on Ethical Considerations in Family Law is next Wednesday, Sept 20th at 10am -- to 11:30am (noon ET). WHOOPS - my mistake - it's 11am to 12:30 (and 1pm ET!!)

There are some important efforts to recognize the special and different ethical obligations in Family Law --- non-adversarial advocacy, the ethical issues related to doing no harm to children, the voice of children in parenting disputes, family violence, indigenous and other cultural competencies, and civility in the practice etc.

Lots of debate on these issues - as you can imagine - and whether or not Family Law is in fact different with different or additional ethical obligations arising.

Join us for the discussion!
